SURSHAN MEMORIAL AWARD 2025

Smt. Mamta Shukla Advocate runs a Delhi based NGO by the name of Vijay Foundation . The NGO has been working for the cause of socially, economically, educationally challenged sections of the society since 2017. The NGO has been , inter alia, taking initiatives towards encouragement & promotion of Art and culture including promoting interest of acclaimed artists as well as to recognise and reward meritorious achievements of women police officers/officials of Uttar Pradesh. Thus a scheme of granting two Annual awards was instituted by the name of Surshan Kala Gaurav Samman and Surshan Vishisht Mahila Policekarmi Samman. Surshan is an abbreviation for ‘Sur’ of Suresh and ‘Shan’ of Shanti being Shri. Suresh Shukla and Smt. Shanti Shukla. Thus, first #Surshan Memorial Nite 2021 was held at CMS auditorium, Vishal Khand Gomati Nagar, Lucknow on 27th November 2021 and twin awards i.e. Surshan Kala Gaurav Samman and Surshan Vishisht Mahila Policekarmi Samman were conferred upon Shri. Rajendra Prasad Vishwakarma, aka ‘Harihar’ a veteran multi facetted and hugely talented artist of U.P and Smt. Premvati Singh Sub inspector of UP police renowned for her honesty, and commitment to public service.

Shri. Suresh Shukla was born on 02.02.1939 and breathed his last on 27.11.2019. He originally hailed from Barabanki which is about 26 kms away from Lucknow. Started his career at an early age in mid 50s when he paddled all the way on his bicycle from Barabanki to Lucknow in pursuit of his artistic leanings. No sooner he realized that his main forte was hosting the program as an announcer so he put his heart and soul to pursue this art and gradually mastered the art of voice modulation. He was the earliest exponent in this esteemed field and pioneered gradually from an ordinary announcer to the exalted position of a programme compare. In pursuit of his artistic talent, he travelled widely across the country performing for All India Radio, Door darshan, defense forces stationed on borders, cultural events organised by public and private sector enterprises. In his career spanning for about 7 decades, his talents was recognized and rewarded by public and private entities on various occasions. From late 60’s onwards he made Lucknow was his permanent abode till his last breath. His passion and commitment in the field of folk music like Awadhi and Bhojpuri both is unparallel and his contribution towards the progress and development exemplary. He is also credited to have contributed in shaping the career of several artists of UP in the field of singing, dancing, folk music etc who now share the National fame. But most important and unique feats of his career graph has been uninterrupted “aankho dekha haal” for about 5 decades of 26th January Republic day parade from Hazratganj, Lucknow

Smt. Shanti Shukla, was born in Lucknow on 02.08.1938 who lived a happy contended life till she was laid to rest on 25.03.2018 at her residence at Hazratganj, Lucknow. She was the fourth child of her parents. Married at an early age to late Shri. Suresh Shukla, an Announcer & Program Compere artist by profession, Smt. Shukla had nurtured ambitions of leading an active professional life. She started her professional career as a music teacher in a school at Barabanki, UP. But in mid 60s she moved to adjoining town in Lucknow along with her husband who was seeking better career opportunities. Thereafter she joined Family Planning department at Civil Hospital, Lucknow as an assistant staff. In the mid 60’s when Smt. Indira Gandhi became the first women Prime Minister of the country, a requirement for lady police officers arose to man personal security of the Prime Minister during her visits to the state of UP. Under a special recruitment drive, Smt. Shukla was selected with two other lady Police Officers to work in the intelligence department as personal security officers for the visiting Prime Minister. While in service she not only acquired master’s degree in Hindi and sociology but was competent enough to pass the departmental exams for Inspectors of police and rose till the level of Sr.Inspector of police. In her career spanning over about four long decades, she majorly worked in Intelligence set up, CID department, local intelligence units, anti-hijacking squad at Lucknow airport as well as also spent some time on deputation with Delhi police security. By sheer dint of her courage, was awarded many times and her professional competence was recognized by UP Police through grant of rewards etc. Even though she was working for police department, she always had in her heart a special place for music and singing as mentioned earlier that she started her career as a music teacher. As an accomplished singer and harmonium player, she participated in various radio and TV programs. She was survived by her husband, a son and daughter, the latter two well settled professionally and socially in their fields.

Surshan memorial Award 2025 would include award of Surshan Kala Gaurav Samman in memory of Late Suresh Shukla . Dedicated in fond memory and recognition of exquisite talent of Late Suresh Shukla as a Program compere/Program Presenter par excellence , for the first time a talent hunt show is being organized to select the Best Anchor of the Year. Three stage Selection process would include short listing of candidates , online audition and opportunity to showcase talent in a live cultural program held in Lucknow on 28/11/25. An Impartial and an unbiased selection will be done by a panel of judges who are eminent persons in Entertainment Industry and who have given their lifetime commitment to Radio , Television , drama , theatre and even Films . The Winner and the runner up would get Handsome Cash prize, Citation and Memento in a glittering ceremony on 28/11/25 at Lucknow .
